About Peru

Peru – the stark & beautiful land of the Incas

Peru is the seat of civilization for the western hemisphere. Peruvians trace their heritage back to the ancient Incan empire, which was conquered by the Spanish in 1532. The ruins of ancient temples speak of a long history of worshipping false idols. In recent history, Peruvians have struggled against Marxist revolutionaries, drug lords, political instability and poverty. Half of Peru’s 27 million people live in poverty, with 25% living on less than one dollar per day.

Bordering Brazil on the east, Peru is comprised of the Amazon Rain Forest, the Andes Mountains and desert coastal lands meeting the Pacific Ocean.

Peru has not seen the miraculous revivals of Argentina or Brazil. Evangelical church growth has stagnated since the 1980’s—due to the lack of leadership training. The national church is pleading for missionaries to come. Bill & Lena believe that their miraculous call to serve in Peru is part of God’s answer to the prayers of the Peruvian church.
